Minister Like the Magdalene
Beeson's Center for Women in Ministry is excited to invite Beeson alumnae and female students to its first Women in Ministry Conference.
Women in ministry face an uphill battle when it comes to pursuing their calling. The journey is rarely straightforward as they faithfully seek to be equipped and called to serve in various ministry capacities. The challenges are further compounded by the lack of female representation in ministry, which has left women without supportive networks in place that could help them navigate the particular challenges that women in ministry endure and negotiate.
In support of women thriving in ministry, Beeson Divinity School invites Beeson alumnae and female students to the first Women in Ministry Conference, July 9-10, 2021 and hosted by Beeson’s Center for Women in Ministry. Our keynote speaker, the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Powell McNutt, is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn. She is also the Franklin S. Dyrness Associate Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies (Ph.D., History) at Wheaton College and a founding member of Beeson’s Center for Women in Ministry Advisory Board.
Over the course of two talks, the Rev. Dr. McNutt will explore the theme, “Minister like the Magdalene.” She will touch on what it means to read a woman’s call to ministry through the lens of Scripture with a focus on the calling and ministry of Mary Magdalene. Drawing from Scripture, theology and church history, Rev. Dr. McNutt’s talks will consider themes of ministry, misrepresentation and perseverance in Christ. Come to be inspired, encouraged and empowered to minister as one who has been called like the Magdalene to go and tell others about the risen Christ (Matt. 28:10).
