Pastors School Speakers

Evening worship services are free and open to the public; however, priority seating is given to those attending Beeson Pastors School. Doors will open to the public 15 minutes prior to each service.


William Willimon has been Bishop of The United Methodist Church since 2004. For twenty years he was Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. He is the author of sixty books. His Worship as Pastoral Care was selected as one of the ten most useful books for pastors in 1979 by the Academy of Parish Clergy; over a million copies have been sold. In 1996, an international survey conducted by Baylor University named him one of the Twelve Most Effective Preachers in the English-Speaking World.

Timothy George has been the dean of Beeson Divinity School since its inception in 1988. A graduate of Harvard University (M.Div., Th.D.), George is a specialist in Reformation studies and serves as the general editor of the Reformation Commentary on Scripture, a new series of twenty-eight volumes of sixteenth-century exegetical comment published by InterVarsity Press. He serves as a senior advisor at Christianity Today and sits on the editorial boards of First Things, Books and Culture, and the Harvard Theological Review. He is the author of more than twenty books including, most recently, Reading Scripture with the Reformers (IVP, 2011).

Robert Smith joined the Beeson Divinity faculty in 1997 and teaches Christian Preaching. He is the author of Doctrine that Dances: Bringing Doctrinal Preaching and Teaching to Life; coeditor (with Timothy George) of A Mighty Long Journey, a collection of sermons on racial reconciliation; coeditor (with Timothy George and James Earl Massey) of Our Sufficiency is of God: Essays on Preaching in Honor of Gardner C. Taylor; and has a study of Christian Ministry in the African American church published in Preparing for Christian Ministry. Before coming to Beeson, he was the Carl E. Bates Associate Professor of Preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. An ordained minister, he served as pastor of New Mission Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 20 years.

Steve Brown is a radio broadcaster, seminary professor, and author. He previously served as a pastor for over 25 years and now devotes much of his time to the radio broadcast, Key Life. With such varied experience and unique perspectives on life, Steve is an original. Overall, he has become known for his refreshing and practical Biblical applications. He serves as professor of Preaching at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida and sits on the board of the National Religious Broadcasters and Harvest USA. Steve is the author of numerous books including Born Free, When Being Good Isn't Enough, When your Rope Breaks and God's Not Mad at You. His articles appear in such magazines as Leadership, Decision, Plain Truth and Today's Christian Woman
