This has been a busy week at Beeson Divinity School! On Tuesday, Gabriel Estrada received the James Earl Massey for Preaching. It is traditional for the winner of this award to preach in the last chapel of the semester. Gabe preached on 2 Timothy 2:1-7. You can listen to or watch the message here (video also includes award presentation).
Below, Gabe and his wife, Natalie, accept the award from Dean Timothy George.
On Wednesday, a total of 23 students graduated from the divinity school. Sixteen were awarded the Master of Divinity degree, and seven received the Doctor of Ministry degree.
The first student to be handed his diploma was Nathan Carroll (pictured below with President Andrew Westmoreland). Dean Timothy George pointed out that in 1990, Nathan's father, Ernie Carroll, was the very first student to graduate from Beeson Divinity School. You can read more about the Carroll Family here.
Dean Frank Limehouse of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham preached the commencement sermon. His text was Jeremiah 45, and his sermon, "Seekest Thou Great Things for Thyself?" was the conclusion of a semester-long series on the book of Jeremiah.
