On Tuesday, May 8, five divinity students received awards.
Otis Dion Culliver was the recipient of the James Earl Massey Preaching Award. Culliver delivered the sermon "Transformation through Transfiguration." He is the pastor of Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church in Beatrice, Alabama, and he graduated from Beeson this May.
Jonathan Bailes [pictured, left] received the History and Doctrine Award. Bailes graduated in December and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in patristics at Boston College. Benjamin Smith [middle] received the William M. Todd Biblical Languages Award. Smith graduated from Beeson in December and recently joined the divinity school staff as alumni relations officer. Joel Busby [right] received the Pastoral Ministry Award. Busby graduated in December and is the pastor for college ministries at Mountain Brook Community Church.
Brian Hinton was named the most distinguished student. Dean Timothy George presented the award, citing Hinton's rare combination of academic excellence and humility. Hinton graduated this May.
